Random question: villainesses impregnating themselves??
Anyway, I was thinking about the fact that Starman also had a supervillain rape him and have his baby without his consent: The Mist, who left Starman a note saying that she would raise Starman’s son to be hate him and want to destroy him. (Did this plotline ever go anywhere? Is there still an evil Starman baby out there somewhere?)
So I wonder: Is this a trope? Have there been other instances in superhero comics of female villains raping male villains in order to have their super-babies? Come to think of it, didn’t this happen to Nexus as well? Are there other examples? I can’t think of examples of this happening in other media, so why is it a recurring thing in comics?
If I remember right, in the last few issues of Starman, the lady Mist died and Starman took the baby home to raise it himself – which also was supposedly the reason he retired from being Starman and passed it on to Stargirl.
Yeah, the Mist’s last act, after she realized her father was A) insane and about to nuke all of them and B) still didn’t love her, was to hand off the baby to Jack right before her father killed her.
But on the whole, that’s a very good question. I can’t think of any other good examples off the top of my head (although for some reason I keep thinking of 90’s X-villain “Haven” who had a sentient mutant fetus) but that is a pretty weird trope.

For those who missed it, Tony Bedard goofed as to which of Oliver Queen’s illegitimate sons was the result of a supervillain raping him. Ollie’s firstborn son, Connor Hawke, was the result of a casual hook up with a woman named Moonday Hawke Armitage. And then later, a supervillain named Shado raped Ollie and had his baby against his will, a kid named Robert. But Bedard accidentally said Shado was Connor’s mom, which would have made a creepy recent cover of Connor and Shado making out way creepier. [...]
I think this might be a weird fear of some men (I’m just guessing here). A fear that they might be forced to be fathers against their will. Maybe some sort of “omg I’m a father now I’ll have to pay child support and grow up.” Or it might be a fantasy thing, that a hot chick wants this guy so much she wants to have his baby.
I think it comes from the flawed assumption that while the base biological drive that propels men is lust, the only equally strong drive in women is the desire for motherhood. Vail: I’m not so sure about the ‘fantasy’ aspect, but I would agree that some men could feel the fear you mention.
